The County is building a second fiber route off the hill, and White Rock is where it will come in. When it’s finished, the County says, service can continue on the other route if one is cut. Atomic Fiber is open access: the County owns the fiber, and we run your internet service over it. To do that, we pay the network a wholesale fee. The network sets that fee, which helps pay for building and running the fiber network.
Here's our promise: your plan price stays the same as long as our wholesale fee stays the same. If the network ever raises it, we tell you before your bill changes, and your price goes up by no more than that increase.

Keep your gear on in a short power cut.
Your fiber modem and router need your home's power. Put them on a small battery backup (a UPS) and they stay on through a short outage. The network's hubs, including White Rock's, have backup power of their own.

Atomic Fiber is being built in phases across White Rock and Los Alamos, and the County’s first construction phase is in White Rock. The County expects the first White Rock homes to be ready in December. The rest of the county follows phase by phase, with full buildout expected in 2029 or 2030.
How to get the max speeds in your home.
The Everything plan brings up to 8 Gbps each way to your door over fiber, and inside your home your router sets your own limit. Three things decide what you measure: a router with a 2.5 Gbps or 10 Gbps internet port (most home routers top out at 1 Gbps), a computer or console with a network port that can keep up, and an Ethernet cable instead of WiFi for the device that needs the speed.

A County-owned fiber network. Built for the way White Rock lives.
The County broke ground on Atomic Fiber behind the White Rock Visitor Center on May 12, 2026, and in August its crews moved into White Rock neighborhoods to lay the main fiber lines, by micro-trenching, directional boring and on existing utility poles.
The first White Rock neighborhoods:
Mirador, Pinion Trails, Pinon Estates, Canyon Piedras, La Vista, Chamisa Park 1 and 2, Ridge Crest 1 to 3, White Rock Canyon, Rover Manor, Valle Del Sol, La Senda, Hasta La Vista and Vista Encantada.
The County named these for its first construction phase in August 2026.

When your address opens. We reach out to book your install. A technician from the network runs the fiber inside and sets the wall plate and fiber modem where you agree, at no charge while the County is building.

The County approved bonds in 2025 to pay for the build, an estimated $35 million, and it owns the finished network the way it owns White Rock's roads and water lines, with uploads as fast as downloads. Is Atomic Fiber reliable?
It's too early for a track record: the network is brand new. Here's what it has going for it. The fiber is new glass the County owns and expects to last 30 to 50 years, and glass carries light, not electricity, so electrical noise can't disturb the signal. The second fiber route off the hill, which the County is building with the Pueblo of San Ildefonso, will come into White Rock. When it's finished, the County says, service can continue on the other route if one is cut. Here's what we control: you can call or text us 24/7 and reach a person, and when an outage is on the network's side, we work it with the network and keep you updated until you're back online.
Where is the White Rock network hub?
At White Rock Fire Station 3. It's one of the three hubs that run Atomic Fiber. The other two are by the Los Alamos Municipal Building and in the Los Alamos County Golf Course clubhouse.
How is the fiber being built in White Rock?
The network's crews lay the main lines along White Rock streets three ways: in a narrow cut in the pavement (micro-trenching), by drilling beneath the surface (directional boring), or on existing utility poles. Those are the methods the County announced in August 2026. When your address opens, the network's technician works out with you where the fiber comes into your home. Do I cancel my current internet when I pre-sign?
No. Keep it until fiber is working in your White Rock home, then cancel it.
Will my price stay the same?
Yes, as long as the wholesale fee we pay the network stays the same. Only two things could raise your plan price: the network raising that fee, or a new tax or government fee. If either happens, we tell you before your bill changes, and your price goes up by no more than that increase. Offers like your first month free are separate and don't change your plan price.
What happened to my pre-sign price?
It went down, and you don't need to do anything. If you pre-signed on 250 Mbps, you now have the Classic plan at $49 a month. If you pre-signed on 1 Gbps or faster, you now have the Everything plan at $69 a month. If your pre-sign came with a 3-year price lock, it still stands, at your new price: for three years from the day your service starts, your plan price stays at $49 or $69 a month.
